Chevrolet Bolt renter in Michigan charged $418 for charging
Michigan resident Stanley Kpenkann received a $418 bill after charging a rented Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle at a station near a Hyundai dealership. As InsideEVs reports, the driver was heading home when, according to him, the car had about 20 minutes of range remaining.
Kpenkann stopped at a fast-charging station available through the EVgo app. He has an EVgo subscription and expected the usual service cost, but after charging was completed, he saw a charge of $418.
A $5 rate
After contacting EVgo, Kpenkann learned that there had been no billing error. The station charged $5 for each kilowatt-hour of electricity and an additional $5 for every minute of charging.

EVgo has a roaming agreement with ChargePoint that allows EVgo app users to use ChargePoint stations. At the same time, ChargePoint and dealerships can set their own prices. According to the publication, pricing information was supposed to be displayed on the charger's screen, but Kpenkann says he did not see it.
Refund
According to the report, the station was likely intended for dealership customers. Its general manager set a high rate to discourage outside drivers from using the equipment.
After disputing the charge with EVgo, Kpenkann received a $405 refund. The final cost of his charging session was $13.27 — the amount he should have paid under his subscription, according to InsideEVs.
