New car sales in Ukraine fell by 27% in August

In August 2026, the Ukrainian market for new passenger cars contracted by 27% compared to the same month last year. Despite the overall decline, Toyota remained the sales leader.

Throughout August, Ukrainians purchased about 5,000 new passenger cars. This is not only 27% less than last year, but also 14% less than the previous month—July 2026. The decline has been ongoing for several months in a row, but the market structure remains fairly stable: the leaders from previous months have maintained their positions.

The Japanese brand Toyota posted the best result among automakers in August, selling 1,092 vehicles—a 9% increase compared to last year. Second place went to the Czech brand Škoda with 600 cars sold (+47%), and third place went to the French brand Renault with 361 cars sold (-32%). It is noteworthy that the Chinese automaker BYD, which previously topped the rankings, came in fourth this time.

In total, over 43,700 new passenger cars were sold in Ukraine during the first eight months of 2026. This is 5% less than during the same period last year, confirming the general trend of a cooling new-car market amid the country’s economic situation.
