Toyota Boshoku plans to reduce its range of parts by one-third

Toyota Boshoku, a supplier of automotive seats and interior components, plans to reduce the number of part types by 33% by 2030 as part of a strategy to cut costs and simplify production. This was reported by Motor1.

The company expects to raise its operating margin to 7% by the end of the decade. Its forecast figure for this year is 3.8%. To achieve this, Toyota Boshoku intends to increase product added value, productivity, and the efficiency of using existing assets.

Fewer parts for seats

One of the company's targets is called RPT33 and предусматривает reducing the range of parts by one-third. This approach is expected to reduce the complexity of development, procurement, production, inventory management, and logistics processes.

As an example, Toyota Boshoku cites cooperation with automakers in which the number of headrest components was reduced by 76%. This concerns not only making individual elements cheaper, but also reducing the total number of parts needed to manufacture a product.

New frames and shorter meetings

The next generation of Toyota Boshoku seat frames is being developed with fewer parts and production operations, while increasing the share of work to be performed within the company. According to the supplier, these frames will be 20% thinner than the thinnest competing product and 5% lighter than the lightest available equivalent.

The company also wants to reduce total meeting time by 42% as part of the “stop, change and find a better way” initiative. It plans to use artificial intelligence to automate design, while changes to production and logistics processes are intended to eliminate waste.

A separate goal for Toyota Boshoku is to expand supplies to other automakers: by 2030, non-Toyota sales are to be three times higher than the 2022 level.
