The shooter from Holosiivskyi called himself a general in the Russian army
The investigation has uncovered shocking details about 58-year-old Dmytro Vasylchenko, who carried out a large-scale shooting in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv.
After a thorough examination of personal files on the perpetrator’s mobile phone, it was discovered that he identified himself as a general in the armed forces of the aggressor country.
Ivan Vyhovsky, Head of the National Police of Ukraine, noted during a conversation with journalists that the device contained numerous video recordings of the man’s erratic behavior.
Vasylchenkov regularly recorded his weapons training sessions and his own movements with a carbine on camera.
Law enforcement officials suspect that the shooter had serious mental health issues that affected his perception of reality.
“When we looked at certain files on his phone—he was constantly filming himself there, showing where he was shooting. When he walked through the building’s entrance, he called himself a general in the Russian army. We understand that he had certain issues,” said Ivan Vygivsky.
In addition to the visual content, police discovered an audio recording that Vasylchenko began making immediately before the conflict with his neighbor began.
Investigators believe the perpetrator planned to use this recording as a tool to later justify his aggressive actions.
The voice recorder captured the full chronology of that day’s tragic events: from the moment of the first argument to his ascent to the apartment to retrieve a firearm.
The recording clearly captures the man moving through the stairwell, as well as the events during the subsequent hostage-taking at a local supermarket.
All digital evidence obtained, including the audio recording of the incident, has already been handed over to the Security Service of Ukraine for further investigation.
Security agencies must determine whether this self-proclaimed “general” was linked to actual hostile organizations or whether his actions were the result solely of internal psychological processes.
