Kyiv was plunged into a traffic crisis due to the prolonged state of emergency

On the morning of September 8, Kyiv experienced a massive traffic gridlock amid a prolonged air raid alert. Large crowds of people trying to get to work gathered at public transportation stops and near metro stations.

The main cause of the disruptions was the prolonged air raid alert. The “red” alert level lasted for more than 10 consecutive hours, and as of 9:30 a.m., a “yellow” alert remains in effect in Kyiv.

Journalist Serhiy Kostezh described the difficult situation on the right and left banks of the capital on social media:

“There’s another transportation collapse in the capital; the metro isn’t running, and surface transit is operating intermittently. Crowds of people at the stops. The photo shows the ‘Lisova’ metro station. But the situation is similar at ‘Vydubychi’ as well,” he noted.

As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region due to a Russian attack.

Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and injuring civilians.

Later, rescue workers showed the aftermath of the strikes on Kyiv.
