Video: A man detonated a grenade in Kyiv during a debt dispute
On September 7, a combat grenade exploded in the Svyatoshynsky District of Kyiv, injuring five people. Law enforcement officers detained a 55-year-old man who, according to preliminary reports, detonated the grenade during a dispute over a debt.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 4 on Chornobylska Street. According to the investigation, the suspect went to the home of his 56-year-old acquaintance to demand repayment of a debt. A confrontation broke out between the men on the street, during which the attacker pulled out a grenade and threw it at the debtor’s feet.
“As a result of the explosion, both men sustained shrapnel wounds to their legs and abdomens and were taken to the intensive care unit. In addition, three local residents who were sitting on a nearby bench were injured: a 21-year-old woman and two men, aged 27 and 38. Medical personnel treated two of them at the scene, while the third victim was hospitalized,” said Bohdan Zamula, chief of the Svyatoshyn Police Department.
Police detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural supervision of the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor’s Office, the detainee was charged with attempted premeditated murder of two or more persons, committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many people, as well as with the illegal handling of ammunition (Part 2 of Article 15, Paragraph 5 of Part 2 of Article 115, and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The suspect faces life imprisonment, according to the Kyiv Police.
