Kyiv made it into the top 10 least comfortable cities in the world

Kyiv has made it into the bottom ten cities in the global livability ranking compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit. The Ukrainian capital ranked 166th out of 173 cities. Copenhagen remains the world’s most livable city in the ranking.

Analysts note that the city has remained at the bottom of the list for several years in a row due to ongoing hostilities.

The decline in ratings was also influenced by a general deterioration in security, the destruction of urban infrastructure, and residents’ limited access to basic services.

Overall, this global index evaluates major cities based on five key criteria:

  • stability;

  • healthcare;

  • culture and the environment;

  • education;

  • infrastructure.

Copenhagen has been named the world’s most livable city for the second year in a row. Joining it in the top five are Vienna, Melbourne, Sydney, and Zurich. These cities earned high scores thanks to a stable security situation, high-quality healthcare and education, and a well-developed urban environment.

Damascus, Syria, remained at the very bottom of the ranking.

Before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the capital’s livability scores were significantly higher. Specifically, at the end of 2021, Kyiv ranked 117th on this list.
