Kyiv to Build 200 MW of New Power Generation Capacity with EBRD Support — Kyiv City State Administration

The Kyiv City State Administration and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have signed an agreement to finance measures under the capital’s resilience program. Specifically, the city plans to develop new sources of electricity generation with a total capacity of approximately 200 MW.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

The agreement provides for the preparation of loan financing for a project to provide emergency liquidity support to Kyiv under the relevant EBRD program.

According to the city administration, the funds raised will be directed toward the development of distributed generation, the modernization of heating systems, the creation of reserve heating capacity, and the upgrading of energy infrastructure.

According to Petr Panteleev, acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, the city has already begun implementing projects to increase generation capacity and plans to commission new capacity of approximately 200 MW by the end of the year.

The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that developing energy resilience also includes ensuring the stable operation of water supply and wastewater systems, restoring damaged equipment, and implementing protection systems for new generation facilities.

Europe is implementing a new plan to overcome the energy crisis, which calls for further reductions in electricity consumption and the active promotion of the “green course,” which could negatively impact industry and the population. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes that “the cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use.”

On January 22, in Mohyliv-Podilskyi, Vinnytsia Oblast, during a protest against frequent power outages, an incident occurred in which the head of the regional power grid was injured.
