Overnight in Kyiv, someone destroyed thousands of tulips donated by the Netherlands
In the Svyatoshyn and Shevchenkivskyi districts of Kyiv, unknown vandals destroyed flower beds containing thousands of tulips, a significant portion of which had been donated to the city by Dutch partners. The flowers, which had just begun to bloom, were pulled up by the roots, trampled, and scattered along Beresteisky Avenue, Lviv Square, Kashtanov Boulevard, and in several parks.
This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration and the Kyivzelenbud Municipal Enterprise.
City officials have already contacted the police, who documented the damage to the greenery. To identify those involved in the crime, law enforcement is reviewing footage from surveillance cameras operating in these areas. Kyivzelenbud emphasized that these flowers were meant to serve as a symbol of support for Kyiv during difficult times, and their deliberate destruction has outraged the community.
Currently, municipal services have begun restoring the damaged areas, and the Kyiv police are continuing their investigation. Given your gardening plans for early May, this news is particularly disheartening—after all, the work of people dedicated to beauty and beautification was destroyed overnight.
On the night of April 30, as well as May 1 and 2, ground frosts of 0–2° are forecast in Kyiv. Meteorologists have issued a Level I (yellow) danger warning due to potential damage to early-blooming fruit trees.
