In Obolon, a car sank into the asphalt – photo
On Wednesday, April 22, in a residential courtyard in Kyiv’s Obolon district, a passenger car partially sank into the ground right next to the entrance to a building.
This was reported by local communities. The crossover fell into a sinkhole that formed as a result of soil erosion beneath the road surface. Fortunately, no one was inside the car at the time of the incident, so there were no injuries.
Local residents attribute the accident to the start of the annual hydraulic testing of the hot water and heating networks, currently being conducted by Kyivteploenergo. During these tests, pipes are subjected to high pressure, which often leads to bursts in the most worn-out sections. It was likely a high-pressure water leak that caused the asphalt to collapse in the courtyard.
Experts are urging Kyiv residents to be cautious and avoid parking vehicles over manholes or in areas showing signs of ground subsidence. As scheduled testing continues, new water leaks and sinkholes may occur in other parts of the city. Emergency services are currently at the scene in Obolon to contain the damage to the network and remove the damaged vehicle.
A road collapse occurred in Kyiv at the intersection of Nyzhniy Val and Pochayninska Streets.
