A petition to allow service dogs on the Kyiv Metro did not receive enough votes
A petition calling for service dogs assisting people with disabilities to be allowed on Kyiv’s public transportation, including the metro, did not receive the required number of votes to be considered.
This is according to data from the Kyiv City Council’s petition platform.
The initiative was registered on March 12. As of May 11, it had gathered about 1,400 signatures out of the required 6,000.
The author of the petition noted that current subway rules allow only guide dogs for people with visual impairments to be transported, whereas in other countries, service dogs for people with other types of disabilities are also permitted.
This specifically refers to dogs that assist people with musculoskeletal disorders, epilepsy, PTSD, and other conditions.
According to the author, the ban creates additional barriers to mobility for people with disabilities.
The European Parliament has passed a law on mandatory microchipping of cats and dogs, which provides for the phased implementation of new rules for owners, breeders, and sellers of animals.
The Swedish government has tightened rules regarding the care of pets, particularly cats. Owners are now prohibited from leaving their cats alone for the entire day; otherwise, they risk a fine or even imprisonment. This is important for ensuring animal welfare and preventing depression in pets.
