Following a massive attack by Russia, part of Kyiv was left without internet access
Following a massive Russian attack overnight, some residents on the right and left banks of Kyiv were left without fixed-line home internet. The outages were caused by damage to one of the capital’s key data centers, which houses equipment belonging to a number of internet service providers.
The provider Undernet reported the issue, noting that the rocket strike damaged the data center containing its central network equipment.
“Due to a massive missile attack on Ukraine, one of Kyiv’s key data centers, where our central equipment is installed, was damaged. This large-scale incident has caused temporary technical difficulties,” the company said.
They added that technical specialists are working on-site alongside data center experts to restore network operations as quickly as possible.
Subscribers of the following providers also reported connectivity issues:
- Faust;
- IBnet;
- X-com (Kyiv region).
In addition, Vodafone Ukraine warned of possible difficulties.
“At this time, there may be temporary difficulties accessing certain services, including home internet, account top-ups, and contact center operations,” the company stated.
According to the operator, engineers have been working since last night to resolve the issue, but there is no estimated timeline for full restoration yet.
At the same time, users report that the providers “Lanet,” “Triolan,” “Nashnet,” and VEGA continue to operate as usual.
Ukrtelecom also stated that there are no major issues.
“Ukrtelecom is operating as usual. We are constantly monitoring the network’s status following the overnight attack and, if necessary, are promptly carrying out restoration work in specific areas. At this time, we are not observing any significant system disruptions in the network’s operation,” the company reported.
Specialists are currently continuing to address the damage to the data center, and users are asked to follow official announcements from their internet service providers.
This was reported by the provider Undernet on Facebook.
