More than 200,000 Kyiv residents may have to be temporarily relocated due to prolonged blackouts
In Kyiv, temporary housing is being prepared for residents in case of prolonged winter power and heating outages. More than 200,000 people have been added to the relevant lists, but so far, only about 2,000 Kyiv residents have agreed to a possible relocation.
This primarily concerns people with limited mobility, people with disabilities, single residents, and families raising children with disabilities.
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that relocation will take place only with the person’s consent. It will be considered if, due to a prolonged lack of electricity and heating, staying in the apartment becomes dangerous or the person is unable to meet their basic needs on their own.
The city is considering guesthouses, health resorts, hospitals, and hotels for temporary housing. One of the prepared centers has already been equipped with 60 beds, and meals, bedding, and hygiene supplies are provided.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, there are over 16,000 children with disabilities, over 160,000 adults with disabilities, and about 26,000 single people living in the capital. Specialized transportation will be used to transport them, and the Red Cross will be called upon for assistance if necessary.
However, there is currently no final list of locations where all individuals on the prepared lists can be accommodated.
