Kyiv universities are changing their teaching formats due to massive attacks

A number of leading universities in Kyiv have changed their teaching formats following massive Russian attacks on the capital. Some higher education institutions have temporarily switched to remote learning, while others have adopted a hybrid model that prioritizes the safety of students and faculty.

Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture has expanded its online component since September 24, granting faculties the authority to adjust class schedules promptly. Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design has also returned to remote learning until the security situation stabilizes. Both universities have a strict rule requiring the immediate suspension of classes and the evacuation of people to shelters during an air raid alert.

At the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” a hybrid format with an emphasis on in-person learning remains in place, though operational decisions are made at the faculty level. According to Rector Anatoliy Melnychenko, the primary priority is the safety of students and faculty, and shelters are operational in the university buildings and dormitories. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is also currently working on modernizing shelters and organizing the educational process.

Russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv with strike drones this morning. Hits and falling debris were reported in several districts of the capital; fires broke out, and there are fatalities and injuries. 

In Kyiv, the number of people injured as a result of the Russian drone attack on September 23 has risen to 41, with at least two people killed.
