The overpass near Chernihiv will be closed for six months
From April 25 to November 30, all vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be completely suspended on the overpass near the Chernihivska metro station in the capital.
The mayor of Kyiv signed the relevant order, citing the need for major repairs to the structure as the reason for the decision.
The restrictions are unprecedented in scale, as they will affect absolutely all modes of transportation, including tram service.
To compensate for the lost routes, the city plans to deploy 39 buses, though experts doubt the effectiveness of this measure.
According to calculations by the civic organization “Passengers of Kyiv,” these buses will be able to handle only two-thirds of the usual tram passenger traffic.
Public representatives have sharply criticized the chosen reconstruction model, noting that the initial technical specifications called for the work to be carried out without a complete traffic shutdown.
Activists claim they proposed to city authorities that a temporary detour track be set up.
Designers confirmed the technical feasibility of such a solution, but city officials refused to make changes to the project, on which 15 million hryvnias have already been spent.
The issue of accessibility during the renovation work is of particular concern. Due to the closure of the overpass, people will lose the ability to move barrier-free along the sidewalk and will be forced to use the underground passage.
The organization emphasizes that this will effectively block the path for people in wheelchairs, depriving them of the ability to navigate this intersection.
