How many residents of the capital consider Kyiv a comfortable place to live

According to the survey results, the vast majority of the capital’s residents consider Kyiv a comfortable city to live in, with 82% of respondents stating that they are generally satisfied with living conditions in the city.

This is evidenced by the latest survey by the Rating group.

“82% of Kyiv residents consider Kyiv to be generally comfortable to live in. Compared to the results of a survey conducted in August 2021, the share of Kyiv residents who consider the capital comfortable to live in has increased slightly (from 75% to 82%),” the Rating Group stated in a press release. In addition, the vast majority of respondents—87%—said they are proud to be residents of Kyiv.

What are the residents of the capital most proud of:

  • the city’s rich history and cultural heritage – 62%;
  • the large number of parks and green spaces—56%;
  • the capital’s vibrant cultural life – 46%;
  • the wide range of opportunities for career growth and self-fulfillment – 41%.

The survey was conducted from May 22 to 27, 2026, using face-to-face interviews. A total of 1,200 respondents—Kyiv residents aged 18 and older—were interviewed. The sample is representative by age and gender. The margin of error is no more than 2.8%.

As a reminder, on May 29, 2026, during a public discussion at a conference in Kyiv, representatives from relevant departments of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), the Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise, the Kyivpastrans municipal enterprise, the Public Council under the KCSA, civil society organizations, and students discussed potential changes to fare payment rules and a new fare model. The discussion centered on 90-minute transfers, a possible increase in the cost of travel, and the idea of free public transportation for the city.

Viktor Mykhailovych Vyhivskyi, head of the Kyiv Metro Municipal Enterprise, explained what constitutes the actual cost of transportation and why the current fare is significantly lower than the cost of production, which is driven by expenses for electricity, salaries, and staff shortages.

The Kyiv City Council was unable to pass a resolution that would have allowed negotiations to begin with international partners regarding a loan for the construction of the metro line to Troieschyna.
