Video: Witness to explosion at postal terminal in Kyiv recounts details of terrorist attack
In Kyiv, law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding an explosion at a postal terminal in the Obolon district, which has been preliminarily classified as a terrorist act. A 59-year-old man was killed in the incident, and two other employees, aged 37 and 41, sustained injuries of varying severity.
According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred on the morning of June 5 while one of the packages was being inspected at the sorting center. Investigators, bomb disposal experts, rescue workers, and ambulance crews quickly arrived at the scene. The terminal grounds were cordoned off to allow for necessary investigative procedures.
One of the company’s employees, Mykola, who was near the epicenter of the explosion, described what he experienced. According to him, at the time of the incident, parcels were moving along the sorting conveyor belt, and employees were unloading them. That was when a powerful explosion occurred.
“I was about 30 meters away. The explosion was very powerful. Sparks rained down from above, and then a fire broke out. It felt like a ‘suicide bomb’ explosion,” the man said.
After the explosion, workers tried to save the other packages and pull them away from the source of the fire, but due to the thick smoke and the danger of the fire spreading, they were forced to leave the building. According to eyewitnesses, the smoke was so thick that it became impossible to remain inside.

The prosecutor’s office reported that a criminal investigation has been opened under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—a terrorist act resulting in the death of a person. The investigation is determining the origin of the explosive device and the circumstances under which it ended up in the mail.
This was reported bythe press service of the Kyiv National Police Headquarters.
