Pollution was discovered near the Lybid River in Kyiv following Russian shelling
In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi District, an unknown substance resembling lubricant in appearance and consistency was discovered in the riparian buffer zone along the Lybid River. The area affected by the contamination is approximately 5 square meters.
A nearby facility was damaged during the Russian attack on the capital on September 8. Experts are currently determining whether the contamination is related to the shelling.
Employees of the municipal enterprise “Pleso” collected samples of the water and the substance itself for laboratory analysis. The tests are intended to determine its composition and origin.
To prevent the contaminant from continuing to flow into the Lybid River and, from there, into the Dnipro River, experts temporarily sealed the pipe from which the leak may have originated on September 10.
To fully address the consequences, the “Pleso” Municipal Enterprise contacted the State Environmental Inspection of the Kyiv Metropolitan District to assess the environmental damage. The “Kyivavtodor” Municipal Enterprise is to carry out work to permanently seal the pipe.
Further updates on the results of laboratory tests and subsequent efforts to clean up the pollution will be provided.
A Russian attack damaged a furniture factory in Vasylkiv.
