A case of rabies in a cat has been reported in the Svyatoshynsky District of the capital
A case of rabies in a cat was reported in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynsky District, prompting the capital to convene a meeting of the city’s emergency anti-epizootic commission. Experts agreed on measures to contain the outbreak and prevent the spread of the infection to other parts of the city.
During the meeting, they established procedures for coordination between veterinary and medical services, district administrations, and local government bodies, and discussed the implementation of preventive vaccinations.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection emphasizes that rabies is an incurable and fatal disease once symptoms appear; therefore, the primary means of protection is the annual vaccination of pets. In the event of a bite or scratch from an animal, experts urge people to immediately wash the wound with soap and water for 15 minutes and seek urgent care at an emergency room to receive rabies prophylaxis.

In Lviv, a case of rabies was laboratory-confirmed in a cat found near the intersection of Volodymyr the Great Street and Krylia Street. As a result, special quarantine measures will be implemented in the city within a 5-kilometer radius.
