In Kyiv, a man used forged documents to take possession of a bathhouse worth 3.7 million hryvnias
On September 11, a 40-year-old man was notified that he was suspected of fraud, forgery, and the use of a knowingly forged document. According to the prosecutor’s office, he illegally took possession of a municipal bathhouse valued at 3.7 million hryvnias.
It was established that the suspect devised a scheme to illegally take possession of the bathhouse building, which was municipally owned. To this end, a forged certificate of ownership was prepared for the man. The document stated that he allegedly owned a non-residential building with an area of nearly 840 square meters in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. In reality, the Kyiv City Council never adopted a decision to transfer this building to anyone. According to expert estimates, its value amounts to 3.27 million hryvnias.
Subsequently, in May 2017, the suspect submitted the knowingly forged document to a state registrar, who entered the relevant information into the State Register of Real Property Rights.
At the same time, the building acquired through fraud actually has a different address and a slightly larger area. The property was on the balance sheet of state and municipal institutions and was never removed from community ownership in accordance with the procedure established by law.
After registering the property in his own name, the man divided the premises into two separate units and sold them to other individuals.
It should be noted that, following a lawsuit filed by the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, the court has already annulled the illegal registration of ownership rights to the building. The disputed property has been returned to municipal ownership.
