Law enforcement officials determined that the author of the videos is a 30-year-old businesswoman who does not serve in the police force.
The police noted that wearing such clothing could have created a false impression among viewers that the blogger was affiliated with law enforcement agencies. “Such content created a false impression of police activities and discredited the police,” law enforcement officials stated. Following an investigation, an administrative report was filed against the woman. Her actions were classified under Article 184-3 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
This article establishes liability for the unlawful use by an individual of symbols indicating affiliation with the National Police. This applies not only to a full police uniform. In this case, law enforcement officials’ attention was drawn specifically to the reflective vest bearing the word “Police” that the blogger wore during filming. The police reminded the public that clothing and other insignia that may give the impression that a person belongs to a law enforcement agency may not be used without proper authorization.
For this violation, the woman faces a fine of up to 34,000 hryvnias. However, the final decision regarding liability will be made by a court. The police did not specify exactly how many videos the blogger had managed to publish or how many views they had garnered.
