Kyiv plans to install up to 50 mobile shelters at bus stops
On September 12, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the installation of the first 40–50 mobile shelters at public transportation stops within the month. They will be placed near stops that do not have permanent shelters.
The mayor noted that the implementation of this program had been delayed due to the inaction of district administrations.
“Last year, we allocated half a billion hryvnias to the district administrations, since they are the entities responsible for managing the funds. However, at the end of the year, they returned this money without ever implementing the project,” Klitschko emphasized.
According to the mayor, there are currently over 4,000 shelters of various types operating in Kyiv, and new facilities are being opened simultaneously. At the same time, mobile shelters have limited capacity and are designed to accommodate 30–40 people, which does not solve the problem for a city with a population of three million.
Klitschko also stressed that the program to install mobile shelters will continue, even though workers are having to operate under conditions of acute resource shortages ahead of the onset of cold weather.
“The situation with preparations for the heating season is extremely difficult due to a lack of funds, personnel, and time. However, we are trying to find both the funds and the means to implement this project, because safety is the number one priority for everyone,” the mayor concluded, according to Glavkom.
Earlier in Kyiv, Kyiv City Express service was suspended due to an air threat.
As a reminder, the Ajax Systems distributor’s warehouse was damaged as a result of shelling in Kyiv.
Kyiv has begun stockpiling food and drinking water in preparation for prolonged power outages and other emergencies. The city aims to prepare reserves in advance that can be used at resilience centers and to assist residents in the event of large-scale disruptions.
A new air threat alert system went into operation in Kyiv on September 6. Now, city residents will receive notifications not only about the fact that a threat exists but also about its type—whether it involves drones, missiles, or a combination of both.
