A family doctor in Kyiv is set to stand trial for organizing a scheme involving fraudulent disability claims

The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against a family doctor who, in exchange for $6,000, promised to arrange a disability classification so that a conscript could travel abroad. 

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the doctor facilitated the illegal transport of individuals across the state border by fabricating medical grounds for obtaining disability status without the patient actually having any real illnesses.

The scheme provided full support: from fictitious “treatment” in a hospital to entering false diagnoses into the eHealth system. The doctor received an initial payment of $1,000 to begin processing the documents, and the client was to pay the remainder after the procedure was completed. The patient, who had no health issues, was sent fake X-rays and medical certificates via a messaging app.

Law enforcement officials determined that the perpetrator used her professional access to the electronic health care system to legitimize the fictitious data. The doctor is currently charged with aiding the illegal transportation of persons across Ukraine’s state border. This case is part of a large-scale campaign to expose corruption schemes in the medical sector aimed at evading mobilization. Until the verdict becomes final, the defendant will remain under investigation, and the prosecutor’s office will insist on severe punishment in accordance with current legislation.

Previously, the SBU and the National Police uncovered eight schemes to evade mobilization in various regions.

Additionally, the court ordered the seizure of over 48 million hryvnias from an official at the Environmental Inspection.
