An exhibition of works by a Mariupol defender following his captivity is set to open in Kyiv

On May 15, the National Museum of Ukrainian History will open the exhibition “Engraved/Hardened.” It will feature works by Vitaliy Kulagin (artistic pseudonym Marian Bilokin), a defender of Mariupol and veteran of the Azov Regiment, created after nearly three years of Russian captivity. The exhibition will be the first public display of his artwork.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.

It is noted that the themes of the works were formed during the author’s stay in Olenivka, Taganrog, Kirovsk, and Kizel, in pretrial detention centers and prisons where Russian occupiers hold Ukrainian prisoners of war.

“Engraved/Hardened” is an exhibition about Vitaliy Kulagin’s personal experience, as well as about people whose stories today are scattered between occupation, evacuation, captivity, and memory. About civilians who survived the siege. About comrades who died. And about those who remain in Russian prisons in Donbas, the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East.

“The world must remember the pain of the city of Mariupol and the courage of those who defended it. What was forged in the hell of war must remain etched in the annals of history,” says Vitaliy Kulagin.

When: Through May 22. Exhibition opening on May 15 at 3:00 p.m.

Venue: National Museum of Ukrainian History, 2 Volodymyrska St.
