In Kyiv, a 31-year-old man was notified that he is suspected of murdering a 55-year-old doctor on the military medical board. According to the investigation, he inflicted approximately 17 stab wounds on the woman after learning that he had been deemed fit for military service.
The Podil District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv announced that a 31-year-old resident of the capital has been charged with the murder of a doctor on the military medical commission. His actions have been classified as the intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of her official duties.
According to the investigation, the tragedy occurred on July 29 at the premises of the Part-Time Permanent Military Medical Commission No. 1 of the Podilskyi District Military Registration and Enlistment Office. The man was wanted for failing to appear before the military medical commission. That day, he was brought to the commission for a medical examination. One of the last doctors to examine him was a 55-year-old female surgeon.
According to the suspect, during the examination, he asked the doctors to check his condition more carefully, complained of severe toothache, and wanted to be granted a few days’ deferment. Investigators claim that after the man realized the medical board would deem him fit for service, he pulled a knife from his bag and attacked the doctor. According to the prosecutor’s office, the woman was struck approximately 17 times in a haphazard manner in the chest, neck, and arms.
The doctor died at the scene from her injuries. After the attack, law enforcement officers detained the man. “After the man realized that he would be deemed fit for service, he stabbed the doctor about 17 times in a haphazard manner in the chest, neck, and arms,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
The suspect is charged with the intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of her official duties. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment of 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
In addition, law enforcement officials have opened another criminal case under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As part of this investigation, they are determining how the man was able to enter the military medical commission’s premises with a knife. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
