Patrol officers in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv detained a man who opened fire in the courtyard of an apartment building, subduing him with handcuffs. He faces up to seven years in prison.
A report about an unknown man walking around the yard and firing shots was received via the 112 emergency hotline. Officers who quickly arrived at the scene found a man with an object resembling a weapon.
Given the danger of the situation, law enforcement officers readied their service firearms in accordance with Article 46 of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police.” While searching the surrounding area, the patrol officers found shell casings, which were likely left behind after the shots were fired; they called an investigative team to the scene and seized the weapon for forensic examination.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, “Hooliganism Committed with the Use of Weapons,” which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment, and the suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
