A driver who struck a patrol officer was detained in Kyiv following a shootout
In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, patrol officers were forced to use their service firearms to stop an aggressive driver in an Alfa Romeo.
This was reported by the Kyiv Patrol Police on Telegram.
The incident on Budindustriya Street ended with the arrest of the driver, who not only ignored the officers’ demands but also ran over an inspector.
The conflict began during a patrol in the Pecherskyi district when the crew noticed a gross violation of traffic rules.
The driver of the Italian car decided to race the police instead of hitting the brakes after receiving a lawful signal to stop.
“We gave chase. While attempting to stop the driver, he struck a police officer and crashed into a patrol car. The driver also collided with a parked Mercedes,” the Kyiv Patrol Police officially reported.
To prevent further danger to bystanders, law enforcement officers fired shots at the vehicle’s tires.
The press service emphasized that no one was injured as a result of the use of firearms, and the vehicle was successfully blocked and stopped.
While speaking with the offender, patrol officers noticed clear signs of alcohol intoxication.
However, the man categorically refused to undergo a medical examination, which under the law is equivalent to an admission of guilt for driving under the influence.
As it turned out later, this was not the first time the driver had flouted the law—over the past year, he had already been caught driving while intoxicated.
Moreover, at the time of the incident, he was not even legally permitted to drive, as his license had been revoked by a court order.
