A Russian rocket struck the home of a family of Ukrainian writers in Kyiv
The apartment of renowned Ukrainian writers Artem and Olena Zakharchenko suffered severe damage as a result of a Russian missile strike on Kyiv on May 24. A Russian missile struck the building’s entrance directly, completely destroying the upper floors and causing a massive fire that led to the collapse of the concrete floors.
The affected literary couple reported this on Facebook. Writer Olena Zakharchenko noted that she managed to lie down on the floor in time during the explosion, and after the front door jammed, the family was able to evacuate to the street.
Currently, the apartment is completely destroyed, littered with bricks from the upper floors, and flooded with water from firefighting efforts, causing the family to lose their belongings and personal library. The writers are in the process of preparing the necessary documents to receive compensation, and as a temporary solution, they have been offered accommodation in a dormitory in Pushcha-Vodytsia. The outlook for restoring the damaged building remains bleak, as repair work on such structures can take years.
