The incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections is rising among children and adults in Kyiv
Over the past week, nearly 9,000 new cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections have been reported in the capital, with children accounting for more than 55% of them.
This is according to data from the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Although the incidence rate remains below the epidemic threshold for now, experts note a steady trend toward increased viral activity.
Doctors emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective means of protection and is relevant throughout the entire season. In addition to vaccinations, doctors advise following hand hygiene guidelines, regularly ventilating rooms, and avoiding large gatherings of people in enclosed spaces. Particular attention should be paid to the health of schoolchildren, as more than 2,500 of the sick children are students at educational institutions.
If the first symptoms of the illness appear, Kyiv residents are advised to immediately contact their family doctor and stay home to prevent the spread of infection. The epidemiological situation in the city is under the control of specialists, but risks are increasing amid the general weakening of the population’s immune system. Strengthening preventive measures will help prevent a critical strain on the healthcare system amid the ongoing aggression by the Russian Federation.
In the capital, 13,664 new cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), including COVID-19, were registered during the ninth week of 2026.
As a reminder, a new strain of H5N1 avian influenza is spreading in Germany.
Additionally, Ukrainians with cancer have been left without a diagnosis.
