A symbolic monument was erected in downtown Kyiv to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Kyiv region

On April 2, a new memorial was unveiled in downtown Kyiv, under the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People, to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Kyiv region from Russian forces.

This was reported by the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The installation consists of a slab from the Gostomel Airport broken in half. It symbolizes the thwarted plans of the enemy, who sought to “take Kyiv in three days.” Red arrows depicting the plan of the Russian invasion are depicted on the surface of the slab.

A steel stele bearing the insignia of all units that participated in the liberation of the Kyiv region was installed between the two halves of the shattered slab. According to the creators’ concept, it appears to be tearing the slab apart, embodying the resistance and unity of Ukrainian forces.

The event was attended by Yevhen Sasko, Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Ground Forces for Psychological Support and head of the relevant department. Recalling the events of February–March 2022, he emphasized:

“This victory was made possible not only by military skill and ingenuity. It was made possible by unity. Thanks to the people who helped the army, supported one another, and never lost faith. Who became the army.”
