Police officers who fled from a terrorist during a shooting in Kyiv have been suspended

At the direction of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, an internal investigation has been launched into the actions of patrol officers at the scene of a shooting in Kyiv. For the duration of the investigation, the police officers involved in the incident have been suspended from duty. 

This was announced by National Police Chief Ivan Vyhovsky.

As part of the investigation, experts are reviewing available video footage, including online recordings, and interviewing witnesses to establish all the circumstances of the incident without exception. All collected information and evidence will be forwarded to the State Bureau of Investigations for further legal assessment. Vyhovsky emphasized the agency’s commitment to an objective and impartial investigation of the incident.

The public will be informed of the results of the investigation in the near future. Law enforcement agencies assure that the actions of every participant in the incident will be properly assessed in accordance with the law. At the same time, heightened security measures remain in place in border regions and the capital due to ongoing threats from the Russian Federation. The investigation is under the personal supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs leadership.

A video has surfaced online showing police officers fleeing from a gunman during the terrorist attack in Kyiv on April 18, leaving civilians—including a child—unprotected.

In the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, a man opened fire on people.
