Actor Pete Edochie honors Olu Jacobs’ memory — Premium Times Nigeria

In Nigeria, actor Pete Edochie honored the memory of his colleague Olu Jacobs, who died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. Premium Times Nigeria reports that Edochie called Jacobs a peaceful and witty man who showed resilience until the end.

The 79-year-old Edochie noted that a person’s death comes by God’s will. He addressed the late actor as a brother and said that he “fought like a man and a soldier.”

Edochie also expressed his condolences to the actor’s widow, Joke Silva. He recalled the six years she spent by her husband’s side and stressed that she had done everything possible. In his later years, Jacobs had health problems; Silva publicly spoke about his condition in 2021, while the family repeatedly refuted false reports of his death.

Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva married in 1989. They later became partners in the Lufodo Group and founded the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, developing work in film production, distribution and education.

Olu Jacobs’ career

Olu Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, was born on July 11, 1942, in Kano. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, worked with the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company and other British and international institutions, and then returned to Nigeria.

The actor worked in theater, television and film for more than five decades. His honors included the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor, the Industry Merit Award from the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, a lifetime achievement award and the national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, which he received in 2011.

A memorial evening for Jacobs is scheduled for September 30 at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island. A funeral service is to take place on October 2 at This Present House church in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
