SNL Jokes About Trump’s Meeting With Xi and Hegseth’s Remarks — Rolling Stone
In the United States, Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment joked about President Donald Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Chinese leader’s three-day state visit. As Rolling Stone reports, host Colin Jost mocked the fact that Trump personally went to meet Xi Jinping at the airport at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Jokes About the Meeting With Xi Jinping
The segment mentioned a 100-foot red carpet rolled out for the Chinese guest, as well as a flyover by military aircraft which, according to Jost, was meant to demonstrate strength. After footage of B-2 bombers was shown, the host noted that Trump was squinting in the video, while Xi Jinping remained impassive.

Hegseth’s Remarks and Other Topics
Jost also commented on a summer speech by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth before cadets at Texas A&M University. Hegseth then declared a rejection of “social experiments” in the military and used an offensive word regarding transgender people. Rolling Stone describes the remarks as transphobic, and Jost mocked the official’s wording.
Co-host Michael Che joked about the administration launching a round-the-clock Trump TV streaming channel after CNN, Politico and MS NOW were temporarily barred from the White House. He also mentioned the return of 84-year-old Mitch McConnell to the Senate after a three-month absence: the senator’s office had attributed it to a fall and subsequent pneumonia.
