Art Basel Miami and its' Ukrainian debut
Miami Beach, USA — December 7, 2025
Art Basel Miami Beach 2025, traditionally regarded as the most influential art event in North and South America, demonstrated this year an impressive dynamism of the art market, international dialogue, and technological innovation. From December 5–7, more than 280 galleries from 43 countries gathered at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the number of visitors reached 80,000 — a figure that highlights the growing global interest in contemporary art.
Vladyslav Nikulin, a visitor of Art Basel Miami Beach 2025, emphasizes in his impressions the scale and atmosphere of the event:
Ukraine at Art Basel: the historic debut of Voloshyn Gallery
The year 2025 became special for Ukraine: Voloshyn Gallery (Kyiv/Miami Beach) entered history as the first Ukrainian gallery to participate in Art Basel Miami Beach. This debut was highlighted by international media and the organizers of the fair, emphasizing the importance of Ukrainian artistic voices on the global stage.
The gallery presented a project dedicated to the work of Janet Sobel, a Ukrainian-American artist whom art historians often call one of the forerunners of abstract expressionism and even a predecessor of Jackson Pollock’s “drip painting” technique. Her work encompasses themes of emigration, cultural memory, and transformation of personal experience, making her a symbolic figure for Ukrainians worldwide.
This participation became yet another confirmation that Ukrainian art not only integrates into the global context but also shapes new meanings and trends.
Key Highlights of Art Basel Miami Beach 2025
Along with the Ukrainian presence, the event was marked by several vivid artistic and market outcomes:
Record sales and art market growth
Strong sales this year indicate asteady market recovery. The most striking example is the sale of Andy Warhol’s “Muhammad Ali” for 18 million dollars, which became the fair’s largest transaction.
Iconic installations and works by world artists
Among the most discussed works were:
● the monumental sculpture “Some/One” by Do Ho Suh, created from thousands of metal plates — a reflection of individuality within collective experience;
● abstract works by Rashid Johnson, traditionally exploring themes of identity and trauma;
● emphasis on Indigenous and Latin American heritage, including works by Frida Kahlo.
Digital art and technological innovations
For the first time, the exhibition presented the ZERO10 initiative, focused on digital art and fashion tech. International participants showcased works combining AR, immersive experiences, and virtual materials — a sign that digital aesthetics are becoming a full-fledged participant in the art market.
The next fair will take place on December 4–6, 2026. Ukraine’s presence this year lays the groundwork for even more Ukrainian galleries and artists to join the large-scale international discussion about the art of the future.
