Barack Obama is launching a podcast about the books that shaped his worldview
On September 24, former U.S. President Barack Obama will launch a podcast titled *A Great Book with Barack Obama* on the Audible platform, dedicated to books that, in his words, have profoundly shaped his worldview and influenced society. The series will consist of six episodes, according to The Guardian.
In each episode, Obama will discuss one of the selected books with a guest. The names of the guests have not yet been announced. The podcast will be produced by Amazon-owned Audible in collaboration with the Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground.
The selection includes Toni Morrison’s *Song of Solomon*, John le Carré’s *Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy*, James Baldwin’s *The Fire Next Time*, Cormac McCarthy’s *All the Pretty Horses*, Marilyn Robinson’s *Gilead*, and Robert Penn Warren’s *All the King’s Men*.

Obama said that great books have always helped him understand himself and his own beliefs. He noted that these six works have accompanied him throughout his life and can teach us something about the human experience. The former president also expressed hope that listeners would discover or reread books capable of changing their perspective on themselves and the world.
Obama regularly publishes lists of his favorite summer and year-end reads. Unlike such lists, which often include new releases, almost all of the books featured on the podcast were published in the 20th century. The exception is the novel *Gilead*, published in 2004.
