The organizers of Eurovision 2026 are stepping up security measures at the venue — Swissinfo
During the 70th Song Contest, to be held in Vienna, the rules governing the use of fan paraphernalia by spectators will become significantly stricter.
This was reported by Swissinfo.
From now on, only fire-resistant flags and banners that comply with current European fire safety standards will be allowed inside the arena.
These changes are part of a comprehensive safety strategy following the tragic events at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana.
A fire that broke out in one of the bars in January of this year claimed the lives of 41 people, forcing European institutions to radically revise the regulations governing mass events.
To enter the Wiener Stadthalle with their own flags, spectators must carry special certificates of compliance.
Security personnel will check these documents directly at the entrance, and uncertified paraphernalia will be confiscated.
The official ticket distributor, Oeticket, emphasizes that contest guests should ensure their merchandise complies with the new requirements in advance.
Organizers recommend purchasing flags from the official Eurovision online store, where all products are already manufactured in compliance with fire safety standards.
The official store’s assortment will include flags of 197 countries, as well as symbols of the European Union and the LGBTQ+ community.
The use of any flags is permitted provided they do not contain offensive or discriminatory elements and fully comply with technical specifications.
