In the Czech Republic, a book about Ukrainians’ conversations during the war was named the best audiobook of the year
The audiobook *Hovory* (“Calls”), created by a woman of Ukrainian descent, was named the best audiobook of 2025 in the Czech Republic.
This was reported by Radio Prague International.
The author of the project is Viktoria Karklo, a student at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The audiobook consists of recordings of telephone conversations between Ukrainians at the start of the full-scale war.
The work features real stories of people separated by the war. Some of the dialogues were voiced by well-known actors in Czech translation.
The jury noted the emotional power of the audiobook, emphasizing that not only the words but also the silence and pauses between lines play an important role in it.
One of the excerpts features a conversation between a woman and her husband—a captive defender of Azovstal.
A total of 124 audiobooks participated in the competition.
