Queer Wave festival continues in Nicosia — Cyprus Mail
The seventh Queer Wave festival is continuing in Nicosia, Cyprus, until September 27, bringing together film screenings, workshops, performances and special events. According to Cyprus Mail, the events are taking place at NiMAC and aim to give a voice and platform to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Screenings on September 23–25
On September 23, the festival will present the Shorts V: The New Era short film selection, dedicated to the experiences, resistance and future of trans people. The same day will feature Carmen Emmi's debut feature film Plainclothes, which received recognition at Sundance. It is a psychological thriller about a police officer who conceals his sexuality and arrests men at a gay cruising spot in the 1990s.
On September 24, the Shorts VI: Lady Friends programme is scheduled, featuring women's stories about connection and the desire for intimacy. Later, the Cypriot premiere of Elliott Tuttle's Blue Film will take place. The following day will feature the Family Ties short film programme and Bearcave by Stergios Dinopoulos and Krysianna Papadakis, which was recognized at the Venice Film Festival. The screening will be followed by the 20-minute waacking performance Tea Party and DJ sets by Electrika and NANA.

Discussions and the festival's conclusion
On September 26, The Book Club on Queer Horror workshop will take place, where George Rallis will examine the history of queer horror. The Shorts VIII: Unity in Community programme will address ecology, sport and sex positivity in the context of creating a safe space and community. It also includes a Q&A session with Thanasis Tsimpinis about The Jezebels.
On the same day, A Song Without Home by Rati Tsiteladze will be screened, a film about a trans woman from Georgia who leaves her mother and seeks refuge in Austria. The programme also includes Pillion by Harry Lighton, about the dynamics of dominance and submission, as well as the closing party Whreticu/ture in collaboration with Trash Your Gender.
Final day
On September 27, the festival will begin with the Trans Talks roundtable for trans, non-binary and gender-expansive people. Also to be screened are Karin Swanström's 1926 silent film The Girl in Tails, the Cypriot premiere of Lucio Castro's Drunken Noodles, and Jim Sharman's cult 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a sing-along screening format. Throughout the festival, visitors can access the Paola and Karayan audiovisual installations, dedicated to Paola Revenioti and Andreas Karayian.
