A sequel to the cult 90s series *The Other World* has been released: plot and cast
On September 24, the first season of the series *The Other World* premiered on Netflix—a sequel to the cult sitcom of the same name that aired on NBC from 1987 to 1993. The new teen comedy-drama follows a new generation of students at Hillman, a historically Black college.

The original sitcom *The Other World* aired on NBC for six seasons—from 1987 to 1993. The plot centered on students at Hillman, a historically Black college, and their lives, studies, and relationships.
In the new series, the writers have moved the story forward to the next generation of Hillman students. The cast will include the children of characters from the original series, allowing the show to continue familiar storylines while also introducing new characters.
The main character will be Deborah Wayne—the younger daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, one of the main couples from the original *The Other World*. She enrolls in the same college her parents once attended, but is determined to forge her own path and not remain in their shadow.
Felisha Pride, who previously worked on *Grey’s Anatomy*, is the executive producer and creator of the new series. Debbie Allen, who worked on the original *Otherworld*, has also returned to the creative team.
Filming for the first season wrapped up in Atlanta in May 2026. The first season consists of ten episodes.

American actress Malea Joy Moon plays Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.

Her new life in college will involve studying, meeting new people, going to parties, and navigating complicated relationships. At Gillman, she’ll also meet Shakila, with whom she shares a common past.

American actress Alaija Kay plays Rashida Duval, one of the new students at Hillman College. The actress is known for her role in the series *Everybody Hates Chris*.
Cornell Young IV
American actor Cornell Young IV plays Shakil Johnson, a Hillman student and the son of Ron Johnson. The actor has previously appeared in guest roles.
Jordan Aaron Hall
American actor Jordan Aaron Hall plays Amir Roday, one of Gilman’s new students. According to Netflix’s description, his character is better at helping others solve their problems than he is at dealing with his own.
Kennedy Rees

American actor Chibuykem Uche plays Kojo Achebe, one of Hillman’s new students. His character is a Ghanaian-Nigerian fashion entrepreneur who is trying to find the courage to bring his vision to life.
Jasmine Guy
American actress Jasmine Guy returns to the role of Whitley Gilbert, which she played in the original *The Other World*.
She is also known to viewers for her role as the witch Sheila Bennett in the series *The Vampire Diaries*.

Earlier, the Disney+ streaming service officially announced the launch of the new series *Darkwing Duck*, dedicated to the superhero duck.
Netflix has indefinitely postponed the premiere of the three-part documentary series *Hunting Gary Glitter* about British glam rocker Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Hedd. The streaming service has also removed the project’s trailer from YouTube.
