Over 90% of energy facilities in the Sumy region are nearing completion of their protection measures — Kuleba

In the Sumy region, most of the work to protect energy infrastructure is in its final stages; over 90% of facilities will be fortified in the near future.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.

According to him, the Sumy region remains a frontline region that is shelled daily, so protecting the energy sector is critically important for the stability and survival of communities.

Kuleba noted that, together with the Recovery Agency, construction of physical protection for energy facilities is ongoing, and most of the work is nearly complete.

According to the minister, since 2024, the Russians have carried out over 140 missile and drone attacks on 22 substations requiring protection, using more than a thousand munitions.

Since the beginning of this year alone, three facilities in the Sumy region have suffered over 50 attacks and about 110 direct drone strikes. One of the transformers withstood about 60 strikes.

The minister emphasized that the protective structures have proven their effectiveness and allow the power grid to remain operational even under fire.

At the same time, he noted that due to changes in the enemy’s tactics, efforts to strengthen defenses are continuing as part of the national Resilience Plan.

As a reminder, utility workers restored heating to 1,100 buildings in a single day.

Klitschko also reported how many homes in Kyiv are still without heat.
