NNPC launches smart self-service filling station in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has put its first smart self-service filling station into operation. The company’s chief executive officer, Bayo Ojulari, said the new format is intended to ensure transparent pricing, accurate fuel dispensing and secure digital payments, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Self-service and energy services
According to Ojulari, the station combines self-service vehicle refuelling with digital payment. The model also provides for electric vehicle charging, as well as services using liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas.
The head of NNPC called the first smart station a pilot project. The company plans to analyse its operation in real time, refine the system together with technology partners and assess customer experience before further expanding the model.

Expansion in stages
Ojulari said that if the initial operation is successful, the format will be scaled across the country in structured stages. Expansion will be influenced by customer demand, location, infrastructure readiness and the availability of various energy solutions in the relevant areas.
According to him, the smart filling station provides real-time monitoring of transactions and equipment operation, as well as maintenance and customer support. Ojulari also said that NNPC’s technology partners have implemented mechanisms to ensure pricing accuracy, proper calibration of fuel equipment and protection of digital payments.
