The Rada approved a bill on the development of green energy in its first reading

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved Bill No. 14271 in its first reading, which provides for the implementation of European Union regulations in the field of renewable energy.

This was reported by ExPro.

The bill was approved by 236 members of parliament.

According to the explanatory note, the bill provides for the harmonization of Ukrainian terminology in the field of renewable energy with European standards, the establishment of a mechanism for setting national targets for the development of “green” energy, and the introduction of the concept of energy communities.

In addition, the document introduces mechanisms for statistical transfers and joint projects with EU countries, provides for the creation of special zones for the development of renewable energy, storage facilities, and grid infrastructure, and simplifies permitting procedures for investors.

Separate sustainability criteria are specified for biofuels, bioliquids, and biomass fuels.

Europe is implementing a new plan to address the energy crisis, which calls for further reductions in electricity consumption and the active promotion of the “green transition,” a move that could negatively impact industry and the general public. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes that “the cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use.”

On January 22, in Mohyliv-Podilskyi, Vinnytsia Oblast, during a protest against frequent power outages, an incident occurred in which the head of the regional power grid was injured.
