EU fuel prices rose 23.8% year-on-year in August — Anadolu Agency

Prices for fuel and lubricants for personal transport in the European Union increased by 23.8% in August compared with August 2025. This followed annual increases of 13.7% in June and 16.9% in July, Anadolu Agency reports, citing Eurostat.

Growth in most EU countries

Annual increases in fuel and lubricant prices in August were recorded in 26 of the 27 EU countries. In 18 states, the figure exceeded 20%.

Prices rose the most in Bulgaria, by 34.5%. Lithuania followed with 28.8%, Finland with 27.6%, Germany with 27.5%, and France with 27.4%. The lowest annual increase was recorded in Hungary, at 1.3%; it was 6.1% in Sweden and 11.7% in Ireland.

Monthly diesel and gasoline dynamics

Compared with July, diesel fuel in the EU rose by 8.3% in August, while gasoline increased by 3.3%. In July, diesel became 4.3% more expensive compared with June, and gasoline rose by 4.7%.

Diesel became more expensive in 26 EU countries. The largest monthly growth rates were recorded in the Czech Republic, at 14.3%, Bulgaria, at 13.5%, and Luxembourg, at 12.3%. The lowest figures were in Italy, at 5.2%, Romania, at 6.1%, and the Netherlands, at 6.2%.

Gasoline prices increased in 22 EU member states, remained unchanged in two countries, and declined in three. Gasoline rose the most in Spain, by 8.2%, Romania, by 6.6%, and Italy, by 6.3%. In Hungary, the price decreased by 0.6%, in Denmark by 0.3%, and in Slovakia by 0.1%.
