Poland to lower maximum fuel prices from Thursday — RMF24

Lower maximum prices for all types of fuel will take effect in Poland from Thursday. A litre of A-95 petrol will cost no more than 6.83 zlotys, A-98 petrol up to 7.71 zlotys, and diesel fuel up to 7.74 zlotys. RMF24 reports this, citing a new statement by the energy minister.

New restrictions for petrol stations

On Wednesday, the maximum price of a litre of A-95 petrol is 6.86 zlotys, A-98 petrol 7.74 zlotys, and diesel fuel 7.80 zlotys. Therefore, from Thursday, the established price limits will be reduced for each of these fuel types.

Petrol stations that sell fuel above the specified limits face a fine of up to 1 million zlotys.

Price reduction package

The announced restrictions are part of the third stage of the “Lower Fuel Prices” package, which has been in effect since last weekend. Its goal is to curb price growth at petrol stations and reduce drivers’ refuelling costs.

The package was introduced after President Karol Nawrocki signed a law on a tax on the excess profits of fuel companies and at the same time referred it to the Constitutional Tribunal for subsequent review. The law made it possible to temporarily reduce excise duty and VAT on liquid fuels. These measures are planned to be financed with funds from a new levy on fuel companies whose profits exceed average levels. The package is to remain in effect until the end of the year.
