Alteogen files application for obesity drug platform — Korea Herald
South Korean biotechnology company Alteogen has filed an international patent application for a technology to extend the duration of drug action. The platform is intended to combine several active molecules into a single conjugate, Korea Herald reports.
Long-acting technology
The technology is called long-acting conjugate. It is based on Alteogen’s existing platform for attaching medicinal substances to specific sites on antibodies. The company expects that combining several active molecules in one structure will help extend a drug’s half-life and the duration of its therapeutic effect.
If successfully developed, the technology could potentially reduce the frequency of drug administration or extend intervals between doses without losing effectiveness. According to the company’s assessment, this could improve treatment convenience and patients’ adherence to prescribed therapy.

ALT-M5 drug
Alteogen is using the platform for its experimental obesity drug ALT-M5. According to the company, animal studies showed the potential for monthly use of the drug, as well as for limiting weight regain after treatment is discontinued. These results remain preclinical.
The company plans to present detailed results at ObesityWeek 2026, the annual meeting of The Obesity Society, to be held in Washington on November 14–17. Alteogen CEO Jeon Tae-yong said the technology could be applied to various biopharmaceutical drugs to create products with a monthly dosing regimen.
