Arkham claims to deanonymize over half of Zcash transactions

The company Arkham announced that it can deanonymize more than 50% of transactions on the Zcash blockchain, linking about $420 billion in volume to specific users, including some operations from the shielded pool. This is significant because Zcash is known for emphasizing enhanced privacy features.

In response to Arkham’s report, Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox pointed out that the company only considers wallets whose owners have voluntarily opted out of privacy; most of the analysis is based on public data. This dispute highlights the key feature of the Zcash ecosystem—privacy is effective only when actively used.

This debate may prompt further discussion about the level of privacy in blockchains and the impact of transaction analysis on users. Future research and developments may expand or strengthen anonymity protections.
