In Nepal, prolonged time in one position linked to back discomfort
In Nepal, maintaining one position for a long time may increase discomfort and strain on certain muscles and tissues, while there is no universal “right” or “wrong” posture. This was reported by the Kathmandu Post, citing, among other sources, a study published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
It is important to change body position
The article notes that the appearance of posture does not always indicate the condition of the body. In particular, one study found no link between a forward head position and pain. At the same time, remaining in an unchanged position for a long time — for example, with the neck bent over a book or smartphone, or while working with a laptop on one’s lap — may cause stiffness and discomfort.
The spine, joints, muscles and ligaments support the body in different positions: at a desk, in a queue or while using a phone. A problem may arise when a person maintains the same position for too long. In a study of university employees who remained in a static posture for extended periods, this position was associated with increased postural strain and musculoskeletal disorders in the lower back.

Breaks and caution with posture correctors
The author advises changing body position every 30–40 minutes, alternating between sitting and standing, taking short breaks and doing light exercises for the neck and shoulders. Books, laptops or smartphones are suggested to be positioned closer to eye level. Those who stand a lot are recommended to periodically do calf raises.
The article also warns against prolonged or improper use of posture correctors. Such devices may temporarily create a feeling of alignment or reduced pain, but their long-term effects remain less clear. Improper use may cause skin irritation, pressure marks and restricted movement. It is recommended to consult a physiotherapist or orthopedist before using such products. This does not apply to medical orthoses and support devices prescribed by a doctor to treat specific conditions.
