Cyclospora outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce ends in the US
In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the end of a Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce. According to Anadolu Agency, there is no longer a known risk of illness from this outbreak, and the lettuce involved was likely removed from the market.
FDA investigation continues
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will continue investigating infection cases linked to iceberg lettuce imported from central Mexico. The product was recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico.
The FDA will conduct the investigation jointly with federal, state and international partners. The agency said it would provide additional updates as new information becomes available.

According to federal health authorities, nearly 13,000 infections in 21 states were linked to the outbreak. More than 570 people were hospitalized, and two died. The highest number of cases, as well as both deaths linked to the outbreak, were recorded in Michigan.
Increase in cases
Since May 1, nearly 20,000 laboratory-confirmed cases of Cyclospora have been reported in the United States — more than 16 times higher than during the same period the previous year. Another 6,100 suspected cases were also recorded.
Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that affects the digestive system and can cause cyclosporiasis. According to the CDC, this intestinal disease is characterized by watery diarrhea, sometimes accompanied by frequent and severe bowel movements.
