BP appoints Ian Tyler as chair of the board of directors
Oil and gas company BP has officially appointed Ian Tyler as chair of its board of directors following the unexpected dismissal of former chair Albert Manifold, which contributed to upheaval in the company’s leadership. CNBC reports.
Interim leadership of the board
Tyler, a BP veteran, joined the company’s board as a non-executive director in April last year. On May 26, he was appointed interim chair of the board, and BP has now officially confirmed him in the role.

BP’s senior independent director Amanda Blanc said that Tyler has extensive experience working with executive teams: he is able both to ask them difficult questions and to support them. According to her, he also ensures proper corporate governance and oversight in shareholders’ interests.
Further changes to the board
BP also said that Blanc will not stand for re-election at the 2027 annual general meeting of shareholders. She will leave the board after a successor is appointed to the role of senior independent director.
