Krafton chairman meets Modi amid $500 million investment in India

Chang Byung-gyu, chairman of South Korean video game developer Krafton, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, India. The sides discussed cooperation in gaming, technology and digital entertainment, The Korea Herald reports.

Investment in India

Krafton has already invested about $250 million in India and committed to invest another $250 million over the next three to four years. Thus, the company’s planned total investment in the country amounts to about $500 million.

During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding ties between South Korea and India, as well as supporting the development of India’s gaming sector and emerging technologies. The participants focused on promoting locally created games and digital content to a global audience.

The talks aligned with India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision and the “Create in India, Create for India, Create for the World” initiative.

Fund and specialist training

Together with Naver and Mirae Asset, the company created the $670 million Unicorn Growth Fund to expand investments in India. Krafton plans to focus on local gaming intellectual property, startups and the broader ecosystem, while also developing investments in artificial intelligence, robotics and deep tech.

The company is also developing local talent through the KIGI Academy program dedicated to game development and digital content creation. Krafton strengthened its presence in India by acquiring local studio Nautilus Mobile, which developed the Real Cricket series.
